Known as leukocytosis, this micrograph depicts an elevated number of normal white blood cells.

This patient’s blood sample revealed a condition known as leukocytosis, an elevated number of white blood cells, which happened to be accompanied by a systemic staphylococcal bacterial infection. Note the banded and segmented neutrophils.
